ROUND TABLE IN LONDON ON MOROCCAN EFFORTS IN THE FIELD OF HUMAN RIGHTS PROTECTION AND PROMOTION
President of the Advisory Council on Human Rights (CCDH), Mr. Ahmed Herzenni, made a two-day working visit to London. During this visit Mr. Herzenni participated in a round table devoted to the efforts made by Morocco in the field of human rights protection and promotion. He met with senior officials of Amnesty International and the British Foreign Office.
The said round table was held at the headquarters of the Royal Institute of International Affairs (Chatham House) in the presence of British parliamentarians and representatives of international human rights organizations, civil society activists and researchers. During this round table, CCDH President shed light on CCDH efforts, particularly in the field of democratization and strengthening of the rule of law.
He underlined, in this context, "the completion of the follow-up of the implementation of the recommendations of the Equity and Reconciliation Commission (IER), mainly in the field of community reparation and institutional reforms".
CCDH President, quoted by MAP agency, stressed the need for more attention to socio-economic rights. He wished to witness the creation of the Economic and Social Council to be a framework for the promotion of social dialogue.
For his part, Mr. Albert Sasson, CCDH member, shed light on CCDH efforts at the international level, recalling the cooperation relations between the Council and regional and international agencies for the promotion of human rights.
During this working visit, Mr. Herzenni met with senior officials of the British Foreign Office and Amnesty International (AI) and members of both houses of the British parliament.
"All of these officials, in particular Amnesty’s, recognize that Morocco has made significant progress, in particular in the implementation of the IER’s recommendations and the reinforcement of human rights in general", stressed CCDH President in an interview with the Maghreb Arab Press.
Several topics were raised, including recent events in Laâyoune and cooperation possibilities between the Advisory Council on Human Rights and Amnesty International.
