Prevention of Modern Slavery
The President of the Advisory Council on Human Rights (CCDH), Mr. Ahmed Herzenni, participates on September 14-15, 2009 in the Alliance Against Trafficking in Persons Conference on the prevention of modern slavery. The CCDH participation aims to exchange best practices in the fight against human trafficking.The conference, held in Vienna, was attended by government representatives, parliamentarians, experts, media and civil society activists in the fight against human trafficking from 56 member countries of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, and its Mediterranean and Asian partners.
The meeting was held at the Hofburg Congress Center in Vienna on five panels: UN activities in the fight against human trafficking and prevention measures, reporting the results of research related to the analysis of economic factors leading to trafficking in persons, assessing the impact of economic crisis on human trafficking and prevention of effects on migrants; the role of media in preventing trafficking in persons, sharing best practices in the fight against trafficking and exploitation through the creation of job opportunities, fight against corruption, dismantling networks supporting work in black as well as trafficking within the framework of sexual exploitation.
In 2003, the OSCE Ministerial Council endorsed the Action Plan to combat trafficking in persons and established an anti-trafficking mechanism. The Action Plan establishes a direct link between political engagement and participation of States since 1975 and the implementation of recommendations at national level on areas of prevention, protection and law enforcement in matters of investigation and prosecution.
It is noteworthy that several OSCE countries are engaged in the fight against trafficking in persons in several areas: the fight against forced labor in construction in Israel, the struggle against domestic work of African children in Britain, trafficking in persons in the household and agricultural areas in the United States, and the fight against forced labor and servitude of the Chinese in France...
