CCDH Calls for a "Comprehensive and Integrated" Strategy against Impunity

In a statement read by Mr. Mahjoub El Haiba, CCDH Secretary General, given on the occasion of the 7th National Congress of the Moroccan Organization for Human Rights (OMDH), organized under the theme of combating impunity: a challenge to the institutionalization of the rule of law (Rabat, March 27-29, 2009), Mr. Herzenni, CCDH President, called for a "comprehensive, integrated and multilateral" strategy against impunity, calling civil society to support the CCDH work given the fact that they it is a force of proposal, through enhancing its capacities as regards research and study.

Mr. Herzenni stressed that the strategy against impunity must draw on the references of international law of human rights in conformity with the criminal law and Morocco’s international commitments. This should be done through the integration and definition of liability and the appropriate penalty as set forth by the international mechanisms.

Mr. Herzenni said that the CCDH had done an outstanding work on the harmonization of the draft Penal Code with the international principles and charters of human rights.

While recalling the CCDH various projects launched on the modalities and mechanisms for the protection and promotion of civil, political, social, economic, cultural and environmental rights, Mr. Herzenni said that the CCDH opted for a participatory human rights approach in all aspects of human development.
