Chihuahua-Mexico: International Forum on Business & Human Rights and sustainable development

The National Human Rights Council took part on 6-7 April 2016 in (Mexico) at the 1st International Forum on business & human rights and sustainable development, organized by the National Human Rights Commission of Mexico, in coordination with the Danish Institute for Human Rights.

International experts and representatives of National Human Rights Institutions (NHRI) gathered in Chihuahua to discuss States’ duty to monitor and control corporate commitments regarding respect for human rights and the duty to facilitate access to remedies for business-related human rights violations. The participants also reflected on how best they can contribute to promoting sustainable development and corporate social responsibility.

Morocco’s NHRI shared its experience and best practices in the area of business and human rights with the participants. It took part in a special session on NHRIs’ contributions and role in ensuring respect for human rights, through accountability mechanisms and monitoring of development indicators.
