Training session on the use of international human rights procedures for the promotion and protection of human rights in Africa
The National Human Rights Council of Morocco (CNDH), in partnership with the African Centre for Democracy and Human Rights Studies (ACDHRS), is organizing a training session on the use of international human rights procedures for the promotion and protection of human rights in Africa. This event is held from 17 to 19 October 2018 in Banjul, Gambia.
The training session benefited around 30 stakeholders (lawyers, journalists, professors and NGOs representatives) from all African regions with the participation of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR). It aims to strengthen the commitment of NGOs within the African human rights system and equip them with knowledge and skills for a more effective interaction with various human rights instruments of the African Union, including the ACHPR and the African Court on Human and People’s Rights.
This workshop is also an opportunity for participants to exchange and share their experiences on their engagement with the international and regional human rights systems and mechanisms
This training session is in line with the CNDH actions in Africa which aim at strengthening the presence of Moroccan and North African actors working in the promotion and the protection of human rights at regional and international platforms and institutions. In this context, it should be noted that the CNDH, jointly with Moroccan NGOs, took part in the NGOs Forum which takes place in the side-line of the ACHPR’s sessions.
Mrs. Hannah Foster, Director of the ACDHRS, Mr. Rémy Ngoy Lumbu, Commissioner of the ACHPR and Special Rapporteur on Human Rights Defenders, Mr. Saranbaatar Bayarmagnai, Human Rights Officer at OHCHR and Fatima Zahra Mesguid, Human Rights officer at the CNDH Department for Cooperation and International Relations took part in the opening session of this training.
