The National Human Rights Council of Morocco (CNDH) is a national, pluralistic and independent institution. It was created in March 2011 to replace the former Advisory Council for Human Rights established in 1990. The CNDH considers all issues related to the protection and promotion of human rights and freedoms. The CNDH works for the preservation of the dignity of citizens, individually and collectively, while taking into account the relevant universal and national standards.
The law No. 76.15 on the reorganization of the CNDH was adopted in 2018 in line with the 2011 Constitution and the Moroccan’s human rights commitment.
In accordance with this law, the CNDH was designated to fulfill the missions of three mechanisms: The National Preventive Mechanism against Torture, The National Redress Mechanism for Children Victims of Human Rights Violations and The National Mechanism for the Protection of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
The Council has 12 Regional Human Rights Commissions (CRDHs) which contribute to discharging the CNDH’s mandate at regional level.
The CNDH has been accredited with” A” status by the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI) since 2001.
