Mr. Ahmed Boukous
Mr. Boukous was born on January 1st, 1946 in Lakhssasse, province of Tiznit.
He followed his primary studies in Agadir, preparatory studies in Taroudant and secondary studies in Marrakech. At the university, he opted for literature, history and pedagogy in Rabat (1964-1967) and linguistics and ethnology in Paris (1970-1974). He got a third cycle PhD in social sciences from the Ecole Pratique des Hautes Eudes, Paris, in 1974, and a PhD (doctorat d’Etat) in linguistics (University of Paris 8, 1987). He is also a graduate in management from ISCAE 2004-2006.
Mr. Boukouss was a French professor at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities (Rabat, 1974-2002). Furthermore, he taught the Amazigh language at the Institut supérieur d’archéologie et du patrimoine (Advanced institute for archeology and heritage) (Rabat, 1986-1994).
Mr. Ahmed Boukouss is an expert in language and education issues at many national and international organizations. He is also a member of the comité scientifique du réseau sociolinguistique et dynamique des langues (Scientific socio-linguistic and dynamic network for Languages), AUPELF-UREF and the Permanent Committee on Programmes of the Ministry of National Education and Youth. He is also President of Fonds d’aide à la production cinématographique (Fund of promoting Cinema production) and member of the Higher Council for Education (CSE) (2006 – 2007).
Mr. Boukouss published several books including, “Langage et culture populaires au Maroc’’, ‘‘Société, langues et cultures au Maroc’’, ‘‘Dominance et différence. Essais sur les enjeux symboliques au Maroc’’, ‘‘Sociolinguistique marocaine’’ , ‘‘Alphabétisation et développement durable au Maroc. Réalité et perspectives’’ and ‘‘في السياسة اللغوية والثقافية بالمغرب الأمازيغية’’ (Amazigh in linguistic and cultural policy in Morocc).
Mr. Boukouss is married and father of three children.
